Call for committee candidates – Apply by Apr. 7, 2024

Are you looking for a way to get involved in CAPL? Consider applying for upcoming openings on a committee, either as a member or in a leadership position.

CAPL seeks and encourages applications from qualified candidates who reflect the diversity and demography of the psychiatrist population with sensitivity to gender, age, race/ethnicity, Indigeneity, cultural background, language, sexual identity and disability. In all cases, appointments will be based on relevant experience, needed expertise, availability and interest.

Applications for all positions are to be submitted no later than Apr. 7, 2024 at midnight PT. All positions require that, at the time of application and throughout their terms of office, candidates shall be members in good standing of CAPL as defined by sections 3.01 and 3.04 of the bylaws.

Leadership Positions

Chair of the Correctional Psychiatry Committee, which provides leadership devoted to clinical services, teaching, and research in provincial and federal correctional systems. Awareness of correctional psychiatry and past service on a volunteer board or committee would be assets.

Committee Member Positions

• Correctional Psychiatry Committee: five vacancies. Wherever possible, core membership will reflect CAPL demographics (e.g., practice stage and setting) and geographic regions. Appointments will be based on experience, needed expertise, availability and interest. Awareness of correctional psychiatry and past service on a volunteer board or committee would be assets.
• Annual Conference Planning Committee: five vacancies, including one position for a resident (PGY1 through PGY6) and one for a medical student. Wherever possible, core membership will reflect CAPL demographics (e.g., practice stage and setting) and geographic regions as well as the desired target audience. Ideal candidates are familiar with or have formal training in adult education and/or continuing education, and are familiar with Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program and medical education principles. Fluency in English is mandatory, and French, while not a requirement, would be helpful.

Drs. Mario Moscovici, Priya Khalsa and Julie Bérubé-Fortin are each eligible to stand for an additional term on the committee.

Term and Time Commitment
With the exception of medical students and residents, who serve a two-year term, the term for each position is three years. Terms on the Correctional Psychiatry Committee may be renewed once on reapplication. Terms on the Scientific Program Committee may be renewed twice upon reapplication.

Committees meet virtually at least three times per year, or more often at the call of the chair. Committee members are expected to participate to the best of their ability, and prepare for meetings by reading and familiarizing themselves with the topics to be covered.
